Luton All Women’s Centre is joining others around the world in 16 Days of Activism to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. You can join us by signing up for one of our events or by joining in with events held by other local organisations that we’re partnering with in this campaign. See below for more details.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence | What we do: Ending violence against women and girls: Take action | UN Women – Headquarters is an annual international campaign that kicks off on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs until 10 December, Human Rights Day. The UN focus this year is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.
The 16 days was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by them. It is used as an organising strategy by individuals and organisations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. From Awareness to Accountability | Global 16 Days Campaign. Their focus this year is about ending femicide or the gender-related killing of women around the world. 2022 is the 31st year of the Global 16 Days campaign.
